An event was held on the theme "Heydar Aliyev's signature and gender dividends at COP29"

On December 11, an event dedicated to the anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Central Scientific Library of ANAS on the topic of “Heydar Aliyev’s signature and gender dividends at COP29”.

First, a video dedicated to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and COP29 was shown.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, the Vice-President of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova, stated that today the independent Azerbaijani state is experiencing its most glorious period. She noted that this period, along with all its other features, is characterized by setting a serious goal of becoming a “country of clean environment and green growth”, which is of great importance for the well-being and health of the people.

Academician Irada Huseynova emphasized that the announcement of this year as the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" in our country, as well as the holding of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan are a vivid example of our country's active role in the fight against global climate change and its contribution to international cooperation. According to her, the successful holding of COP29 in Baku is the result of confirmation of the authority of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as Azerbaijan's demonstration of itself as a reliable partner, a unifying force, a center of ideas and mutual understanding in the global political arena.

Presenting her report on the topic “National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s Concept of Ecological Security and Goals of Sovereign Azerbaijan for a Climate-Resilient Future” the scientist emphasized that holding COP29 at a high level and the decisions adopted here can also be considered a triumph of the ecological security concept founded by National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The Vice-President of ANAS noted that the development of scientifically based ecological thought in Azerbaijan was based, first of all, on the works of academician Hasan Aliyev, then academicians Budag Budagov, Jalal Aliyev, Musa Musayev, Garib Mammadov and other scientists. The problems they raised and the solutions they put forward played an important role in determining the contours of the ecological security concept of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.

According to her, in 1969-1982, at the initiative of the National Leader, 8 very important laws on ecology, environmental protection and efficient use of natural resources, 32 decisions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and the Council of Ministers were adopted. Since 1969, the increase in the number of protected natural areas and the expansion of their areas have also been particularly intensified.

"If in the 1950-1960s it was possible to increase the area of green spaces per capita in Baku to only 6.5 square meters, then thanks to the important decision on the greening of Baku on September 7, 1971, made at the initiative of the Great Leader, this figure reached 17.5 square meters in 1975" noted academician Irada Huseynova.

The Vice-President of ANAS emphasized that one of the first steps of the National Leader after Azerbaijan gained independence was to bring the ideology of the "Green World" to the forefront again. The Republic of Azerbaijan has joined numerous international documents, conventions and protocols related to the environment and biodiversity, and the country's legislation has been improved taking into account international commitments.

Stating that the Great Leader's ecological safety course has been successfully continued and developed by President Ilham Aliyev, academician Irada Huseynova drew attention to the incredibly large-scale work being done in Azerbaijan in the direction of eco- and biosafety. She noted that the important measures taken by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the IDEA Public Union to restore rare and vulnerable species in our republic, including the restoration of rare species, mass tree planting campaigns, the “National Strategy for the Protection and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity in the Republic of Azerbaijan” and action plans, the declaration of 2010 as the “Year of Ecology”, as well as the establishment of the Wildlife Restoration and Rehabilitation Center in Azerbaijan for the first time in the South Caucasus, are examples of the work done to improve the ecology. The role and merits of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva in all these processes should also be especially noted.

Academician Irada Huseynova added that the main provisions of the Great Leader's ecological security concept, which can be considered a useful example for the whole world, were among the topics of discussion at most events held during COP29. In addition to combating climate change, the objectives set included the elimination or reduction of the impact and consequences of these changes on vulnerable groups of the population and biodiversity. Also, the approach to gender and climate issues from the prism of science and justice was one of the main directions of Heydar Aliyev's ecological security concept throughout the entire period of his leadership of the republic. The principles put forward by the great personality occupy an important place among Azerbaijan's goals for a climate- sustainable future.

The Vice-President said that the application of modern approaches to ecological, food and biological security by science, both locally and globally, is always in the focus of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS. At the end of her speech, academician Irada Huseynova noted that Azerbaijan's goals in the field of green world and healthy environment are of great importance not only for the future of our people, but also for the whole world, and wished success in the work of the conference.

At the event, reports were also heard on the topics “Calls for peace, reconciliation and “green culture” of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva at COP29” by Professor Rena Mirzazade, Chairman of the Women’s Council of ANAS, “Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the nature of Azerbaijan” by Zarifa Guliyeva, member of the Council Directors of the Women's Council of ANAS, “Ecological thought and the mythical beginning” by Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor Aynur Ibragimova, Deputy Chairman of the Women's Council of the Institute of Folklore, and other topics, discussions took place.
