About the most important results, scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Central Botanical Garden for 2021

A joint meeting of the Scientific Councils of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and the Central Botanical Garden was held. At the meeting were discussed the results of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Garden in 2021.

The meeting was opened by the Vice-President of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova, who provided the floor to the Executive Director of the Central Botanical Garden, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Hasan Babayev.

In his report, Hasan Babayev has provided detailed information on the performance of the works which were done in the institution this year, in connection with the Decrees and Orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Resolutions and Orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as State Programs. Was noted that during the reporting year, the Garden staff has published 38 scientific works, including 2 monographs, 1 book, 22 articles and 13 abstracts in the domestic and foreign scientific press, 7 articles were published in impact-factor journals. Information has been provided on the participation of the Garden staff in numerous online conferences, webinars both in the republic and abroad.

H.Babayev has noted that a memorandum was signed between the Batumi Botanical Garden, the Mangyshlak Experimental Botanical Garden of Kazakhstan and the Central Botanical Garden within the framework of mutual cooperation for the period of 5 years. In order to enrich the collections of living plants of the Central Botanical Garden was carried out a seed exchange with the Botanical Gardens of a number of foreign countries. On the territory of the Shamakhi stronghold, which is functioning at the Central Botanical Garden, has been created a collection of various medicinal, essential-oil, nectariferous and other useful plant species.

The Executive Director of the Garden informed the meeting participants that for the garden roses under the names of  "Professor Lutfi-Zade", "Academician Jalal Aliyev", "Leila", "Academician Hasan Aliyev", "Kara Gilya", "Absheron Symphony" and "Eastern Morning" which were grown by the method of selection and hybridization in the Central Botanical Garden, were received patents and certificates of authorship. In addition, he has emphasized that in the current year, educational-creative classes and educational events were held in the Central Botanical Garden with the students of the Scientific Research Institutions of ANAS and a number of Higher Educational Institutions of Azerbaijan.         

Hasan Babayev noted that on behalf of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, large-scale landscaping work works were carried out in the Garden, and in November of the current year, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, after getting acquainted with the landscaping works being carried out in the Central Botanical Garden, highly appreciating these works, has gave his instructions and recommendations.

Then there was an extensive discussion of the report, were given answers to questions and made suggestions.

Summing up the results of the discussions, academician Irada Huseynova has noted the necessity to carry out an inventory of the Garden, create a database, restore and enrich collections, expand research on endangered species and gave instructions and recommendations on other issues. As a result, the activities of the organization were positively assessed and it was decided to approve the annual report.
